Children who have been diagnosed with life-limiting illnesses need special attention
so that they can keep enjoying the pleasures of everyday living. Catholic Hospice's STARS Program provides comprehensive palliative care services for children and adolescents, from birth to 18 years of age.
The Stars Program Provides:
• A Pediatric interdisciplinary team approach to enhance the quality of life for the child and family
throughout the child's illness and beyond.
• Home care services, allowing the child to remain in his/her environment, surrounded by
loved ones.
• Health care professionals specifically educated in pediatric pain and symptom management.
• Hospital visits and discharge planning to smooth the transition from hospital to home.
• Inpatient and continuous care for acute symptom management.
• Hospice services for care at the end of life with bereavement support for families after death.
Professional Services Can Include:
• Nursing Visits
• Case Management
• Physician consultation
• Clinical Social Work for support and resources
• Spiritual Counseling
• Home Health Aide Services
• Pet Therapy
• Trained volunteers who offer support and assistance
• Anticipatory grief counseling
• Bereavement Follow-up Program, including Camp Hope for siblings who are trying to cope after
a loss
