Brian Payne

Brian K. Payne assumed the responsibilities of Executive Director of Catholic Hospice on May 7, 2007.

Mr. Payne, who has over ten years of experience in the hospice healthcare industry, comes from VITAS Innovative Hospice Care where he was the Senior General Manager.

"It is with great pleasure that we welcome Brian Payne. He will be an invaluable asset to Catholic Hospice as he brings his vast experience and knowledge into its leadership team," said Manuel Anton, MD, Chair of Catholic Hospice Board of Directors and Senior Vice President and Medical Director at Mercy Hospital. 

A seasoned manager with an extensive marketing and business development background, Mr. Payne also held positions at organizations such as Hospice of Palm Beach County, Gateways Counseling, and Charter Plains Behavioral Health Systems. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration with a focus on Marketing from Texas Tech University. He is a Board Certified Clinical Associate and belongs to the American Board of Certified Managed Care Providers.

"I am very pleased to be joining such a fine organization as Catholic Hospice.  I look forward to offering my knowledge and expertise to better the lives of those in our South Florida Community suffering from terminal illnesses as well as leading such a great group of employees dedicated to such a wonderful mission driven organization as Catholic Hospice," said Mr. Payne.

Bonnie Alkema

Bonnie Alkema, Director of Performance Improvement and Quality, assumed her responsibilities on January 7, 2008. As VP of Performance Improvement, Alkema is responsible for the planning, designing, implementation and maintenance of the Performance Improvement and Corporate Compliance Programs. Additionally, she will be supervising the departments of Quality Improvement, Education, and Medical Records.

Mrs. Alkema, who has over sixteen years of experience in the hospice healthcare industry, comes from Caring People Home Healthcare Agency where she was the Director of Operations and Director of Nursing.  A seasoned nurse, Alkema has served as General Manager, National Patient Care Administrator, Patient Care Administrator, and Team Manager, all within the hospice field.

"It is with great pleasure that we welcome Bonnie Alkema to the Catholic Hospice family. She is a wealth of knowledge and will be an invaluable asset to our team. We are excited that she has decided to make Catholic Hospice her new home,” said Brian Payne, President and CEO of Catholic Hospice.

A Registered Nurse since 1992, Mrs. Alkema is certified as a Hospice and Palliative Care Nurse (CHPN), is both a member and Certified Trainer of the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association (HPNA), and has her Nursing License in Florida, Michigan and Georgia.

“I am very excited to bring my skills and talents to the wonderful staff at Catholic

Hospice, and I am very pleased to be joining such a great organization," said Mrs. Alkema.

Bonnie Murray

Bonnie Murray serves Catholic Hospice in the capacity of Director of Professional Services for both the north and south office locations. As the Vice President of Nursing, Murray is responsible for establishing the policies and practices of patient care, promoting patient safety and performance improvement, directing and coordinating nursing and home health aide services and allocating resources within the organization to provide quality patient care, all while exceeding the standards required by all applicable regulatory agencies. 

Mrs. Murray is a nurse-attorney who received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Loyola University of Chicago and her Juris Doctorate from John Marshall Law School in Chicago, Illinois. While attending law school, Mrs. Murray served on the editorial board of John Marshall Law Review. She graduated from law school Cum Laude, was elected member of the Order of the Coif and is licensed to practice law in the states of both Illinois and Florida.

While in Illinois, Murray had worked as a charge nurse at a large metropolitan hospital in Chicago as well as a case manager for the VNA Hospice in Evanston, Illinois. Since her move to Florida, she has practiced law at the Miami law firm of Fowler, White & Burnett, P.A. where she worked as a litigation attorney in the healthcare area. Mrs. Murray subsequently transitioned back into the healthcare arena and has been an integral part of the Catholic Hospice team for over ten years.

Patricia M. Gunn

Patricia M. Gunn assumed the responsibilities of Director of Finance for Catholic Hospice on June 26, 2006. As Vice President, Finance and CFO, Gunn is responsible for the overall functioning of the fiscal support services including budgetary control, strategic financial planning, and investment management.

Ms. Gunn, who has expertise in financial and business management, comes from Memorial Regional Hospital, the flagship facility of Memorial Healthcare System, and one of the largest in Florida. While with Memorial Regional Hospital, she provided financial guidance and support for the Memorial Primary Care Centers and Memorial Practice Management, and developed the financial skills of mid level managers.

A seasoned financial manager with over fourteen years experience in the healthcare industry, Gunn has held management positions at large organizations including National Mentor, Inc. and United Health Group. Prior to receiving her M.B.A. from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business with focus on Finance and Statistics.

“I look forward to using my experience, knowledge and expertise to serve the South Florida Community through a solid organization like Catholic Hospice. Catholic Hospice was there for my father two years ago when he was terminally ill. They were also a great source of spiritual support for him and our family during a time of hardship,” said Ms. Gunn.
